On Monday we went to the V&A Waterfront in
Cape Town. To be honest, it is very decadent.
Lots of people with lots of money.
Cape Town. To be honest, it is very decadent.
Lots of people with lots of money.
However, there is a huge craft market with really
nice things, especially if you're tired of all the shops
selling the same tourist stuff.
We wanted to buy some presents for the boys and their girl friends, for my friend who looked after our cat for three weeks and the kids' teachers and found a little shop with beautiful art and crafts made with recycled tea bags. The hand painted tea bags idea really fascinated me and I tried to find more information on the internet. That's how I found out about Jill's amazing project "Original T-Bag Designs".
The place where the tea bag art is created happened to be in Hout Bay, not far from Camps Bay where we stayed. The site says to just drop by and that's exactly what we did on Tuesday morning. I am so glad we did, because it was the best part of our Cape Town stay! Honestly, we loved it!! All four of us!
Jill welcomed us warmly, served tea and coffee and showed us the whole process of the hand painted recycled tea bag art.
Because of this wonderful project formerly unemployed
men and women from Imizamo Yethu township are
able to support their families.
So if you happen to be in Cape Town, go to
Hout Bay and see for yourself. Totally worth the visit.
P.S. We bought some really nice things. I'll show
you when we get home (I didn't want to unpack them).
